Long before I provided day care, "Quiet Time" was always a part of our family life. When kids are young most still very much need a nap. But what happens as they get older and outgrow the need to nap? Because we have always had a variety of ages both in our family and at our home day care we still like to set aside a time for everyone to decompress each day. I think quiet time makes way for each of us to learn to be still and at the same time helps pave the way to becoming a great thinker. If you are a parent who has a child new to daycare or just want to institute this idea with your own children a great article I recommend you read can be found here: http://www.homestarcenter.org/quiet_time_transitions.html
I agree whole heartedly with the authors philosophy and think all children and I might add many adults can benefit from the daily practice of finding some quite time of your own each day!
